A case has been registered against six persons for allegedly transporting cattle illegally in Maharashtra's <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-man-dies-after-falling-off-running-local-train-23353220" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane district</a>, police said on Saturday, reported news agency PTI.
The police intercepted two tempos transporting buffaloes in cramped and inhumane conditions in Kalyan on Friday morning, an official from the MFC police station said, reported PTI.
The drivers of both tempos did not have permits to <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-robbed-woman-gets-pleasant-wake-up-call-from-grp-cops-23353022" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">transport cattle</a> and could not furnish necessary medical certificates for the animals, he said.
A first information report (FIR) has been registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976, against six persons, including the drivers, owners of the vehicles and persons who had purchased the cattle, the official aid, reported PTI.
The accused are from Mumbai, Ahmednagar and <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/four-of-10-deceased-identified-so-far-in-dombivli-factory-blast-23352967" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Uttar Pradesh</a>, he said, adding that further probe is underway.
In another case, nine Bangladeshi women were arrested for allegedly overstaying in the country without valid documents, while one woman was held for helping them, a MBVV police official said on Friday, reported PTI.
Acting on a tip off, nine Bangladeshi women staying illegally in Shanti Nagar and Gita Nagar localities in Mira Road were held on Wednesday following a raid, the Naya Nagar police station official said, reported PTI.
"The woman who had given them shelter was also arrested. The owner of the house is wanted in the case. We have charged them under provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Passport Act and Foreigners Act," the official said, reported PTI.
