Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena president Eknath Shinde on Tuesday backed Union Home Minister Amit Shah's call for the introduction of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in states governed by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, saying the party's founder, Bal Thackeray, had advocated a common law for all.
Shinde said the Shiv Sena's position was consistent with the principle of having one common legal framework and added that the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra was positively inclined towards the UCC.
