Pune district’s ghat sections witnessed another spell of over 200 mm torrential monsoon rain in 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday. The Tamhini ghat recorded the highest rainfall during this period, 280 mm, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for the region.

While the hill ranges continued to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, Pune city and the adjoining plains experienced only light to moderate showers accompanied by gusty morning winds. The latest spell comes even as Pune has already surpassed its 12-year July rainfall record, with more rain forecast over the next four days.
