<p>A Nicaragua-flagged merchant tanker that ran aground off Manori in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-cisf-rescues-nine-crew-members-from-sinking-tugboat-near-colaba-23632710" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">north Mumbai remained stranded</a> for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, officials said.</p>
<p>The vessel, identified as MT Al Jafzia, is stuck nearly one kilometre away from the coastline. Authorities confirmed that no crew members or other people were present on board the ship when it was inspected.</p>
<p>According to officials, multiple agencies are monitoring the situation and assessing the next steps required to remove the stranded tanker safely.</p>
<h2>Coast Guard and other agencies monitor situation</h2>
<p>The Gorai police said the unmanned vessel had not been removed yet, and a joint monitoring operation was being carried out by the Indian Coast Guard and other concerned agencies.</p>
<p>Information about the stranded tanker was received on Monday morning, after which the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and other authorities were informed. The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/photo/in-photos-a-day-after-tragic-boat-accident-off-mumbai-coast-people-visit-gateway-of-india-103401" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Coast Guard</a> later diverted its ships to the location to assess the situation and provide necessary assistance.</p>
<p>"The ship is stranded around one kilometre off Manori beach. We came to know about it on Monday morning and accordingly informed the Navy, Coast Guard and other concerned authorities," a police official said.</p>
<h2>Tanker inspected, no crew found onboard</h2>
<p>Officials said the vessel was inspected after agencies reached the location. No crew members or other individuals were found on board.</p>
<p>Police said the owner of the tanker has been informed about the situation.</p>
<p>According to the Marine Traffic website, MT Al Jafzia is an oil and chemical tanker that was docked at <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/boat-sinks-after-being-hit-by-cargo-ship-off-mumbais-madh-coast-retrieved-no-one-hurt-23455530" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mumbai port</a> around two months ago.</p>
<p>The vessel is 182.75 metres long and 32.26 metres wide. It operates under the flag of Nicaragua, according to MarineTraffic, a maritime analytics provider that tracks ship movements and provides real-time information about vessels in harbours and ports.</p>
<h2>Weather conditions create challenges</h2>
<p>Local fishermen said the area where the ship is stranded has rocky patches, and strong winds have made it risky for smaller boats to move close to the vessel.</p>
<p>The incident comes as Mumbai and its neighbouring areas have been experiencing heavy rainfall over the past few days, affecting normal life and creating difficult conditions along the coast.</p>
<p>The Coast Guard, in a statement on Monday, said, "MT Al Jafzia, which was unmanned on anchorage has presumably run aground off Manori."</p>
<h2>Vessel linked to earlier case</h2>
<p>A senior Coast Guard official said personnel had apprehended three ships in February this year in connection with alleged illegal bunkering activities.</p>
<p>The ships were brought to <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-ferry-tragedy-ferry-carrying-111-passengers-exceeding-its-90-person-capacity-under-scrutiny-after-mumbai-collision-23449814" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mumbai</a>, and a case was registered at the Yellow Gate police station.</p>
<p>Authorities continue to monitor MT Al Jafzia while assessing measures required for its safe removal from the area.</p>
