Maharashtra leaders across party lines welcomed the Pune special court's decision to award the death penalty to the accused in the Nasrapur child rape and murder case, calling it a victory for justice and a strong message against crimes targeting women and children.
The case, which shocked the state after the brutal rape and murder of a 3.5-year-old girl in Bhor tehsil on May 1, triggered widespread outrage and demands for a speedy trial. Responding to public sentiment, the state government had pushed for a fast-track investigation and trial.
