Advocate Jahanara Shaikh has alleged that she was stopped from entering the maternity ward of Cooper Hospital two days ago because she was wearing a burqa. She claimed that a woman police officer asked her to remove the garment before allowing her to enter the ward.

Shaikh told mid-day, “I was visiting my relative who was admitted to the maternity ward. However, the policewoman on duty stopped me at the entrance and told me that women wearing a burqa would not be permitted inside.”
