Vehicular damage was witnessed across the city after heavy rainfall and gusty winds led to the collapse of trees on Friday and Monday. Eyewitnesses expressed relief that no lives were lost in any of the incidents but ardently urged the authorities to maintain roadside trees to prevent further such mishaps.

Dr Mascarenhas Road, Byculla

Four to five vehicles were damaged after a huge tree on fell down on Dr Mascarenhas Road on Monday morning.  According to Ahmed Memon, the owner of a shop in Byculla, the tree was at least over a century old. “If it had fallen on the other side, four or five shops, including mine, would have been flattened. The tree probably fell because its base had been cemented.”
