Chembur’s RCF police have registered an FIR in connection with the brutal killing and mutilation of six stray cats in Kamawadi, Govandi, after being approached by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India. The complainant, Rubeena Abdul Malik Pathan, 53, who has been taking care of community animals for six years, has said in her statement to the police that she found the remains of four felines on September 3 and two more on September 5.
“Convinced that some unknown person had deliberately and cruelly killed the stray cats in the area, I complained about this to PETA,” Rubeena said in her statement to the RCF police. Ishani Rathee, cruelty response coordinator at PETA India and a lawyer, told mid-day, “After Rubeena reported the incident to us, our volunteers assisted her in formally registering the police case”.
