Mumbaikars on their way to work on Tuesday were surprised to encounter rain in isolated pockets, an occurrence that prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to update its 10 am green alert for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to a yellow alert until Wednesday, indicating heavy rainfall at some spots.

According to the BMC Disaster Management Department’s rain situation report for August 11, covering 8 am to 6 pm, Colaba recorded 14.0 mm of rain in the preceding 24 hours, while 24.4 mm had been recorded up to 5.30 pm on Tuesday. At Santacruz, rainfall in the preceding 24 hours stood at 20 mm, while the rainfall recorded up to 5.30 pm was 43.8 mm.
