A total of 967 trees might be affected in the ongoing phase of the city’s first desalination plant at Manori, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials told mid-day on Tuesday.
Officials say the proposal for the same by the department concerned is moving through the due administrative process. They added that the proposal had reached the office of BMC’s superintendent of garden and tree officer for a due hearing. According to officials, under the current requirements — across 12 hectares — 28 trees, including large old ones, will have to be cut, while 939, mostly younger date palms and ornamental ferns, will have to be transplanted.
