The construction of the long-pending <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/santacruz-chembur-link-road-extension-rs-200-crore-to-cause-this-mother-of-all-traffic-jams-23590948" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) extension</a> arm towards Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) via the Mumbai University campus has entered the final stage, bringing motorists a step closer to a direct, signal-free connection between the Western Express Highway and Mumbai&rsquo;s premier commercial district.

The elevated connector is expected to transform east-west travel while improving access to the eastern parts of the city, offering an alternative route for thousands of motorists and reducing pressure on some of the city's most congested roads.

An <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mmrda-strengthens-mumbai-metro-last-mile-connectivity-with-direct-access-to-key-developments-23640399" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">MMRDA </a>official said, &ldquo;Finishing works on the SCLR extension are in progress. The 1.4-km-long extension, work on which commenced on October 17, 2017, has been developed at a total project cost of '209.56 crore &mdash; '148 crore for the elevated bridge and '61.56 crore for the Vakola bridge and allied works. Once completed, the project will provide direct, signal-free connectivity between BKC and the WEH, while seamlessly connecting BKC with Mumbai&rsquo;s eastern and western suburbs. It is also expected to help decongest key arterial roads in Santacruz, Vakola, Kalanagar, Kalina, Kurla, and Chembur.&rdquo;
