<p>The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-pune-expressway-landslide-cm-fadnavis-urges-commuters-to-avoid-travel-as-debris-clearance-continues-23638489" target="_blank" rel="none noopener"><strong>India Meteorological Department (IMD)</strong></a> on Monday evening issued Nowcast warning for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad, warning of intense spells of rain accompanied by strong, gusty winds over the next three hours.</p>
<p>The warning was issued at 4 pm on July 6, 2026 and will remain valid for the following three hours.</p>
<p>According to the IMD, isolated places in the three districts are likely to experience intense rainfall along with gusty winds reaching speeds of 60 to 70 kmph.</p>
<p>The weather conditions could lead to reduced visibility, waterlogging, traffic disruptions, falling tree branches and damage to weak structures in vulnerable areas.</p>
<h2>IMD scientist flags 80 kmph winds</h2>
<p>IMD scientist Bikram Singh told the PTI that the red alert will continue on the following day as well. However, rainfall activity over Mumbai is expected to reduce, and the warning may be downgraded, although moderate rain is likely to continue.</p>
<p>He added that strong winds remain a major concern, with gusts reaching 70&ndash;80 kmph in some areas. Such winds could uproot trees and damage old or weak structures, including kutcha houses and ageing buildings. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain cautious and follow safety instructions issued by authorities.</p>
<p>The IMD has also issued red alerts for the <a href="mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-weather-update-imd-issues-heavy-rain-alert-for-state-ghat-areas-likely-to-receive-extremely-heavy-rainfall-23638338?text-shots" target="_blank" rel="none noopener"><strong>Ghats of Pune, </strong></a>Nashik, and Satara, where extremely heavy rainfall is forecast at isolated places along with strong winds of 60-70 kmph. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected in Ratnagiri, while Sindhudurg is likely to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds.</p>

<h2>Residents advised to take precautions</h2>
<p>The IMD has urged residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions during the warning period.</p>
<p>People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from trees, hoardings and electricity poles during strong winds, and follow <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-monsoon-harbour-line-services-hit-after-tree-falls-on-tracks-amid-heavy-rains-in-mumbai-train-operations-restored-say-officials-23638486" target="_blank" rel="none noopener"><strong>updates issued by local authorities</strong></a> and emergency services.</p>
<h2>Suburbs see higher intensity</h2>
<p>Mumbai experienced moderate and uneven rainfall on July 6, 2026, with the suburban areas receiving significantly higher showers compared to the city region.</p>
<p>According to data recorded between 8 am and 4 pm, the Island City recorded 24 mm of rainfall, while the Eastern Suburbs received 59 mm and the Western Suburbs recorded 61 mm.</p>
<p>The data shows that rainfall activity remained stronger in the suburban belt compared to south Mumbai during the period. The officials stated that continue to monitor <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/pune-rains-schools-closed-today-after-imd-issues-red-alert-for-heavy-rainfall-23638477" target="_blank" rel="none noopener"><strong>monsoon conditions</strong></a> as intermittent rainfall is expected to persist across the city.</p>
