Mumbai lake levels: Seven lakes hold 98.11 per cent of useful water stock

Mumbairsquos seven lakes supplying water to the city held 1419974 million litres ML of useful water as of 6 am on Tuesday September 22 according to the Hydraulic Engineerrsquos DepartmentThe combined storage stood at 9811 per cent of the total useful capacity of 1447363 MLWhile the cityrsquos water stock remains high the level is marginally below the corresponding period last year when the lakes held 9929 per cent of their useful capacity The storage is slightly higher than the 9815 per cent recorded during the same period in 2024Among the seven lakes Bhatsa Vihar and Tulsi remained at full capacity with Vihar and Tulsi continuing to overflow Modak Sagar had the lowest storage level at 8880 per centBhatsa at full capacityBhatsa was at its full reservoir level of 14207 metres with 717037 ML of live storage or 100 per cent of its useful capacity The lake recorded 2 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours taking its seasonal rainfall total to 2689 mmVihar was also at 100 per cent capacity with its level at 8022 metres against the full supply level of 8012 metres The lake recorded 12 mm of rainfall and has received 2757 mm during the season It has been overflowing since July 7Tulsi remained above its full supply level at 13923 metres against 13917 metres with its live storage at 100 per cent The lake received 61 mm of rainfall taking its seasonal total to 3803 mm Tulsi has been overflowing since July 7Modak Sagar records lowest storageModak Sagar had 114481 ML of live storage accounting for 8880 per cent of its useful capacity of 128925 ML Its water level rose by 031 metres in the past 24 hours to 16137 metres The lake recorded 1 mm of rainfall with its seasonal total at 3252 mmTansa stood at 9845 per cent of its useful capacity holding 142828 ML against 145080 ML Its water level fell marginally by 001 metres to 12851 metres No rainfall was recorded over the past 24 hours while its seasonal rainfall total stood at 2959 mmVaitarna lakes hold over 4 lakh MLUpper Vaitarna held 218368 ML or 9618 per cent of its useful capacity Its water level rose by 003 metres to 60324 metres The lake recorded 28 mm of rainfall taking its seasonal total to 3894 mmMiddle Vaitarna stood at 9896 per cent with 191517 ML stored against a useful capacity of 193530 ML Its water level fell by 034 metres to 28451 metres despite 11 mm of rainfall The seasonal rainfall total stood at 2950 mmTogether Upper Vaitarna Middle Vaitarna and Tansa held 667193 ML or 9606 per cent of their combined useful capacity of 694582 MLThe Bhandup Complex recorded 26 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours taking its seasonal rainfall total to 2961 mmThe Hydraulic Engineerrsquos Department said the Middle Vaitarna WSCPO gate was closed on July 6 while release from Upper Vaitarna was stopped the same day Tansa began overflowing on July 22 followed by Modak Sagar on July 23With the combined lake stock at 9811 per cent Mumbairsquos water reservoirs continue to remain well stocked with three of the seven lakes at full capacity
