There is no doubt in the minds of most cricket lovers that Jasprit Bumrah is already an all-time great fast bowler. And talking about great fast bowlers, our in-house cricket nut brought up Australian great Dennis Lillee. He doesn’t remember a book written on Lillee like this one on Bumrah, but the Western Australian wrote several books during his playing days and beyond. He started with Back to the Mark followed by The Art of Fast Bowling, My Life in Cricket, Over and Out, and Menace-The Autobiography, apart from a book on family fitness. Bumrah won't be able to emulate the former world record-holder on this score, but we'll wait for the first Bumrah autobiography (The Boom Effect, Penguin RandomHouse) while we lap up the joint efforts of Aayush Puthran and Nicholas Brookes for the moment.

Paris is getting a taste of Mumbai chic with designer Marie Gastini's first solo show at the city-based gallery, Aequo's new French establishment. Located at the famous Rue Mazarine, L'Atelier d'été, is timed to the Paris Design Week (till September 19), and marks a three-way collaboration between the gallery, Villa Swagatam, (Pondicherry) and Amal Embroideries (Sewri), and captures work designed during Gastini's residency in the city. “Our collaborations take shape slowly, through time spent in workshops, through observation, experimentation, and a willingness to let materials and techniques guide the work. Marie's project embodies this spirit beautifully,” shared Tarini Jindal Handa, founder, Aequo.

The footpath is not for walking, sir

The article presents a satirical overview of every Mumbaikar’s complicated relationship with footpaths
Let's be honest, if you’re a Mumbaikar, you probably have a love-hate relationship with the city’s footpaths. To help you with that, author-podcaster Clyde D’Souza has penned the frustration of every Mumbaikar in his Substack article, ‘Dear Diary: Does Mumbai Need Footpaths?’, which he published on September 17. D’Souza elaborated about the idea, “It’s half-frustration, half-satire and half-acceptance of our fate. The idea had been mulling in my head, especially after the BMC’s ‘Pedestrian First’ campaign.” It’s like we dislike the hawkers but also can’t get enough of them.”

Or perhaps, as D'Souza puts it, they’re simply “pedestrian service providers,” offering everything from chai and chaat, to hot gossip.

A legacy beyond

The Sanskrit phrase, ‘Vaidyo Narayana Hari,’ literally translating to ‘The doctor, or healer, is equivalent to God’, rings true for those who encountered Dr Dolly Gurbaxani, the pioneering acupuncturist and anaesthetist.
Her demise on September 17 has left a void among many. Daughter Gitanjali Gurbaxani recalled her accolades, “She was always an achiever, with an infectious smile. I remember a lot of patients telling her, ‘We feel okay just by meeting you; it’s like half the work is done.’ It’s what she’ll always be remembered for: An excellent mother, successful doctor, one-of-a-kind acupuncturist, and a woman who always had a smile on her face.” Rest in peace, doc. Your legacy will always be celebrated.
