An 11-year-old boy lost his life, and four others sustained injuries after a roadside peepal (sacred fig) tree got uprooted and smashed a school bus near the Heritage Pride building on 11th Road in Chembur East around 2.58 pm on Tuesday. According to officials, the uprooted tree fell on a school bus belonging to Universal High School.

At the time of the incident, 13 children were travelling on the bus. The bus attendant, with the help of residents, swiftly rescued all the occupants before emergency responders arrived. The Mumbai Fire Brigade subsequently carried out rescue operations.The exact cause of the tree collapse is yet to be ascertained.
