A 24-year-old car driver died after his <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-traffic-updates-traffic-movement-hit-on-thane-nashik-highway-after-car-catches-fire-near-kopri-bridge-23641445" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">vehicle caught fire</a> following a collision with an autorickshaw on JJ Road in Malad area of Mumbai on Friday evening, officials said.
The incident was reported to the Mumbai Fire Brigade at around 6.41 pm.
According to officials, the car caught fire immediately after crashing into the autorickshaw.
Firefighters reached the spot and extinguished the blaze by around 7.12 pm.
The car driver, identified as Abdul Matten (24), was taken to BDBA Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
<h2>Auto driver under treatment</h2>
The autorickshaw driver also <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-best-bus-accident-best-bus-hits-divider-in-borivali-after-driver-swerves-to-avoid-biker-in-borivali-23640901" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">sustained injuries in the accident</a> and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Doctors said the injured driver's condition is stable.
Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police and the 108 ambulance service rushed to the scene after the accident.
The cause of the crash is yet to be established, and police are investigating the incident.
<h2>Car catches fire in Thane</h2>
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a&nbsp;car caught fire on the Thane-Nashik Highway near Kopri Bridge on Friday, causing <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-rains-key-bridges-in-kalyan-submerged-authorities-divert-traffic-amid-rising-water-levels-23641195" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">traffic congestion</a> on the busy stretch near Majiwada in the district, officials said.
The fire was brought under control by the fire brigade, and no injuries were reported in the incident. Efforts were underway to restore the traffic movement, they said.&nbsp;
Firefighters reached the scene soon after receiving information about the blaze and worked to extinguish the fire.
The flames were successfully put out, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby vehicles.
According to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-bus-fire-parked-school-bus-catches-fire-in-maharashtras-thane-no-injuries-reported-23641280" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC)</a>, the car was completely destroyed after catching fire at Vijay Park near Kasarvadavali Naka in Thane on Friday evening. Officials confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
The fire was reported at around 7.47 pm. The vehicle was travelling from Vikhroli to Lodha Amara in Kolshet when the blaze broke out, it said.
<h2>Officials rushed to the spot</h2>
The driver and his friend noticed the fire in time and safely got out of the car before the flames spread.
Fire brigade personnel, disaster management staff, traffic police and officers from Kopri Police Station rushed to the spot. The blaze was completely extinguished by around 8.20 pm with the help of one fire engine and one rescue vehicle.
The car was extensively damaged in the fire.
After <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/delhi-fire-woman-her-two-daughters-killed-after-fire-breaks-out-in-house-at-delhis-lodhi-colony-23640891" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">the blaze was brought under control</a>, traffic police began removing the burnt vehicle from the road with the help of a towing vehicle to restore smooth traffic flow.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
