The BMC is looking beyond its traditional funding sources to finance a growing pipeline of large infrastructure projects, from sewage treatment and stormwater drainage to roads and urban mobility. The civic body has floated a request for proposal (RFP) to appoint financial consultants who will help draw up a long-term financing strategy, manage debt and identify alternative sources of funding. The consultants will also prepare a Capital Investment Plan (CIP) and Debt Management Policy (DMP).

Seven ways BMC wants to raise money

Capital markets
Municipal, green, blue, sustainability, social and sustainability-linked bonds.

Climate and carbon finance
Carbon credits and emerging climate-finance mechanisms.

Development finance
Multilateral and bilateral agencies, domestic financial institutions and infrastructure debt funds.
