A search operation is underway after a 19-year-old <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-10-year-old-boy-goes-missing-after-entering-a-lake-in-andheri-west-search-operation-underway-23639581" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">boy was reported to have drowned</a> in Vihar Lake in Mumbai's Powai area on Thursday afternoon.
The incident was reported at around 3.18 pm, following information received from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB).
According to officials, the missing teenager has been identified as Kailash Soman, 19.
Rescue teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade are carrying out a search operation in the lake to locate him.
<h2>Multiple agencies at the scene</h2>
The incident took place at Vihar Lake in Filterpada area of Powai.
Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/cjp-protest-mumbai-cop-who-threatened-students-with-fake-drugs-case-during-protest-removed-probe-launched-as-video-goes-viral-23641240" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mumbai Police</a>, 108 Ambulance Service and BMC ward staff have been deployed to assist in the ongoing rescue operation.
Officials said the search operation was continuing at the time of reporting. Further details are awaited.
<h2>10-year-old boy drowns in private lake in Andheri West</h2>
Meanwhile, in an another incident, earlier this month, a 10-year-old boy had <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/kandivali-drowning-ndrf-indian-navy-join-search-for-17-year-old-boy-feared-drowned-in-kandivali-lake-23638877" rel="nofollow">drowned in a private lake</a> in Andheri West. His body was recovered by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) after an extensive search operation
According to information received by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the incident occurred around 1.15 pm on July 14 at Wireless Compound in Juhu Gully, located at DN Nagar behind the Jagrut Hanuman Temple.
Two to three children from a nearby slum had gone swimming in the lake, which is located on private property. During the outing, one of the boys drowned, the information released by BMC said.
The missing child was identified as Dinesh Basawraj Harijan, according to Assistant Police Inspector (API) Nagre.
<h2>NDRF retrieves child's body&nbsp;</h2>
The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) launched a search operation immediately after receiving information about the incident.
Police personnel and a 108 ambulance were deployed at the spot.
According to an update later issued by the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-drowning-60-year-old-man-found-dead-after-suspected-drowning-in-waterlogged-area-at-mumbra-in-thane-district-maharashtra-23638876" rel="nofollow">Mumbai Fire Brigade</a> at 5.50 pm, the child's body was retrieved from the lake by NDRF at 4.52 pm.&nbsp;
The child was rushed to Cooper Hospital for medical examination, where he was declared brough dead.&nbsp;
Police have registered an accidental death report (ADR), and further investigation into the incident is underway.
