<p>The prices of both cow and buffalo milk in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/nashik-earthquake-maharashtra-district-hit-by-4-3-magnitude-tremor-no-damage-reported-23643840" rel="nofollow">Maharashtra </a>are set to go up by Rs 2 per litre from Tuesday after representatives of major cooperative and private dairies approved a hike.</p>
<p>As per PTI, the decision was taken at a meeting of the Milk Producers and Processors Welfare Association. Association president Gopalrao Mhaske chaired the meeting.</p>
<h2>Rising fuel and packaging cost</h2>
<p>According to the association, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/no-cut-in-petrol-and-diesel-prices-now-says-union-minister-hardeep-singh-puri-23638059" rel="nofollow">diesel prices </a>have increased by Rs 10 per litre while packaging expenses have increased by around 30 per cent. With the increase in fuel and packaging prices, the association believes that selling the milk at the same price as before would be very unfair. The procurement price of milk has risen, and a further increase is expected.</p>
<h2>Milk prices up by Rs 2</h2>
<p>Considering these rising costs, the association has decided to increase the selling price of milk by Rs 2 per litre and the prices of dairy products by up to 10 per cent. The revised prices are scheduled to come into effect from August 11, it said. &nbsp;</p>
<h2>Bombay HC pulls up FDA over milk vendor licence suspensions</h2>
<p>In a separate incident earlier, the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-fda-raids-bombay-high-court-pulls-up-fda-over-milk-vendor-licence-suspensions-grants-interim-stay-23641861" rel="nofollow">Bombay High Court</a> had granted an interim stay on the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) decision to suspend the licences of several milk vendors and suppliers in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, reported the PTI.</p>
<p>The court observed that the authorities had not followed the legal procedure required before taking such action.</p>
<p>The Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court, presided over by Justice S G Chapalgaonkar, passed the interim orders while hearing separate petitions filed by the affected milk vendors and suppliers, according to the PTI.</p>
<p>The FDA had suspended the licences earlier this month, alleging violations of food safety guidelines.</p>
<p>However, the petitioners argued that the deficiencies found during inspections were only minor and did not justify immediate suspension of their licences.</p>
<h2>An improvement notice should have been issued</h2>
<p>The petitioners contended that the Food Safety and Standards Act requires authorities to issue an improvement notice before taking the drastic step of suspending a licence, the news agency reported.</p>
<p>Their counsel, Advocate Rahul Karpe, argued that the vendors should also have been given a show-cause notice and an opportunity to present their case before any action was taken.</p>
