The Maharashtra Government on Friday announced that Islampur, located in Sangli district, is to be renamed Ishwarpur.

This announcement was made in the state legislature on the final day of the Maharashtra Monsoon Session 2025.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal informed the legislative assembly. He further stated that the state government would send the cabinet decision to the Central government for approval, reported news agency PTI.
