I lost my son; I only hope no one else suffers as I have,” Dahisar East resident Sangeeta Jadhav, whose 11-year-old boy, Mahesh, succumbed to injuries after falling from a human pyramid during Janmashtami last year, told mid-day.
AS the city gears up to celebrate Dahi Handi today, several families are still reeling from the unforeseen tragedy that followed the previous year’s celebrations, when two deaths and 278 injuries were reported across Mumbai.
Dahisar boy’s death
After losing their 11-year-old son, Mahesh, during last year’s Dahi Handi celebrations, the Jadhav family of Dahisar East says it has been left with no choice but to keep going. Sangeeta Jadhav, the deceased child’s mother, said, “No one should have to face such a horrific tragedy, that too during festivals. I lost my son; I only hope no one else suffers as I have. Those playing Dahi Handi this year need to be very careful while climbing on top of one another. You should think of your family because they are the ones who suffer the most if something happens to you.”
