BMC Budget 2026: Maharashtra owes Mumbai civic body Rs 10,948 crore, education grants form largest share

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is yet to receive Rs 10,948.58 crore from various departments of the Maharashtra government, according to figures released during the BMC Budget 2026 presentation on Wednesday.
According to the figures up to January 31, 2026, the largest share of the pending amount - Rs 7,241.44 crore - relates to grant-in-aid payments from the state’s Education Department.
