Maharashtra: Undertrial escapes from Shirur police's custody while being brought back to jail

An undertrial escaped from police custody while being brought back to Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai city of Maharashtra a police official said on Saturday reported the PTIThe Shirur police in Pune district had taken custody of Muzahid Gulzar Khan 28 and two others who were in jail after being arrested by Khopoli police in connection with a case it was investigating and were bringing them back to Taloja jail when he escaped the official said according to the PTIA Shirur court had remanded the three in judicial custody and they were being brought back to jail on June 5 Khan told police his stomach was aching and that he immediately needed to urinate When the police vehicle stopped at Kharghar to allow him to answer natures call he jumped into a nullah and fled the official saidA constable who jumped into the nullah to nab him suffered injuries the official saidA case was filed as Kharghar police station on the complaint of the Shirur police team that was bringing back Khan to Taloja jail and efforts were on to nab him the official said as per the PTIDuo held in Rs 37 cr share market scamMeanwhile in an another incident in Navi Mumbai two people including a hotel waiter have been arrested in Navi Mumbai for allegedly cheating people of more than Rs 370 crore on the pretext of online share market investment police said on Monday the PTI had reported earlier this weekThe duo Salman Nizamuddin Khan 35 the waiter and Prakash Karamsi Bhanushali 39 both from Navi Mumbai were also involved in another case of fraud said senior inspector Gajanan Kadam of the cyber police in an official releaseThe police with the help of banks have frozen Rs 4600000 of illgotten money which was deposited in different accounts by the accused said the releaseBetween February 17 and April 24 the accused lured investors into share trading by promising them lucrative returns They cheated the victims to the tune of Rs 37006000 during the period said the policeAn FIR was registered based on a complaint lodged by some of the victims against unidentified people with the cyber police under relevant sections of the IPC and the IT Act said senior inspector Kadam as per the PTIDuring their probe the police got a tipoff that two men involved in the crime were coming to a cooperative bankrsquos branch in Turbhe to open an account They laid a trap at the bank and nabbed the duo on May 31 said the releaseAfter their interrogation the police came to know that hotel waiter Khan and his accomplice Bhanushali were also involved in cheating people in need of urgent moneyThe duo would promise to arrange money by convincing unsuspecting individuals to submit documents required for opening a bank account They would then use these documents to obtain SIM cards in their name and also get Gumasta and Udyam certificates which are needed for setting up businesses and ventures said the policeThe duo opened fictitious current accounts under the names of different companies and forwarded the bank account details of victims to their associates in Dubai in return for good money said the releaseThe arrested men were also involved in crimes in other states such as Telangana Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh it said the news agency reported earlier this weekwith PTI inputs
