The parents of <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/iit-bombay-protest-students-organisations-hold-joint-demonstration-outside-institute-nine-activists-detained-23651157" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">IIT Bombay student</a>, who was found dead in his room last week, on Tuesday said they have faith in the administration and the Constitution and hope their son will get justice.
The deceased student's father, demanded that those accused in the case be questioned and arrested, saying that the truth would emerge only after their arrest.
&ldquo;The accused in the case should be questioned and arrested. Only after the arrest will everything come out,&rdquo; he said.
He described his son as a bright student and said allegations that he had cheated in the JEE Advanced examination were baseless.
&ldquo;Cracking the JEE Advanced exam is not an ordinary achievement. Look at his All India rank,&rdquo; he said, alleging that the cheating claim was an attempt to divert attention from the matter.
He reiterated his demand for the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/iit-bombay-student-death-fir-filed-as-police-probe-exam-incident-on-powai-campus-23650799" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">arrest of the accused in the case</a>.
<h2>Mother makes emotional appeal for justice</h2>
The deceased student's mother said that she was struggling to cope with the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/iit-bombay-student-death-mumbai-crime-branch-takes-over-probe-examines-digital-evidence-23651087" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">loss of her son and appealed for justice</a>.
&ldquo;I am a mother and a teacher. I have lost my child, and only a mother can understand how much pain I am going through,&rdquo; she told reporters.
&ldquo;Please ensure that he gets justice. I know how talented my child was. I appeal to all of you with folded hands and beg you to give my child justice,&rdquo; she said.
<h2>Parents allege casteist slurs and harassment</h2>
She alleged that her son had told the family that he was facing torture and casteist slurs.
&ldquo;We kept telling him that our future is going to be very good. Perhaps that was our mistake. If we had taken him with us that day, my child would have been alive today,&rdquo; she said.
The allegations are part of the family's account and will be subject to investigation.
The deceased, a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/iit-bombay-protest-institute-professor-named-in-abetment-to-suicide-case-of-student-mumbai-crime-branch-launches-probe-23650954" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">second-year BTech student</a> in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, was found dead in his hostel room on the Powai campus on the evening of September 18.
The incident occurred hours after he was allegedly caught using a mobile phone during a mid-semester examination.
