Casio&rsquo;s G-Shock series of wristwatches is legendary for being rugged, and the perfect companions for those who love to travel rough. Well, they now have a new string added to their already well-stacked bows &mdash; Bluetooth connectivity with your phone. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jun/gshock.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 495px;" /> The Casio G-Shock GB-6900 AB comes with all the bells and whistles that you would expect from a G-Shock range watch: it is water proof, shock proof and is made of chunky plastic with a stack on buttons on it and a number of display modes as well - timekeeping mode, world time mode, stopwatch mode, timer mode, and so on. But what really marks it out from the G-Shock crowd is what is referred to as its Mobile Link. The watch comes with Bluetooth, using which it can link to your phone and show information from your smartphone like new e-mails, Facebook and Twitter notifications, right on your watch&rsquo;s display. And when it works, we must confess that it is useful. Beeps and vibrations alerted us whenever there was mail or a Facebook/Twitter update, and we were able to keep our phone on silent mode in meetings, responding to calls when we saw the call icon on the phone. Best of all, we could use the watch to make our phone play a ringtone to help us find it whenever we misplaced it. There are a few catches though. For one, right now, the watch works only with the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S. For another, you need to download a G-Shock Plus app from the iTunes app store and then pair your iPhone with the watch - which can be nerve wracking (not least because the accompanying thick manual has no instructions in this regard and asks you to go and check for them on the Web!). Top that off with a penchant for draining your iPhone&rsquo;s battery - which anyway just about makes it through a day - and this can be a bit of an expensive deal. The Casio G-Shock GB-6900 AB is best suited for those who want a rugged watch that can also act as a sort of notification centre for their phones - although we would have liked more detail rather than just notifications that a new mail or tweet has been made - but hard core techies might prefer the Sony SmartWatch, which costs lesser and works with more devices as of now.
