Seema Sajdeh, then an aspiring fashion designer from Delhi, met Sohail Khan during the making of the film Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998), which Sohail directed. Their friendship soon turned into a romance as they spent more time together during the film's production.

While the couple wanted to marry, Seema's family reportedly did not approve of the relationship initially. Coming from different cultural backgrounds, they encountered resistance, forcing them to keep their plans private.

Unable to convince their families, Seema and Sohail decided to elope. According to Seema, they got married on the same day Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya released. The couple first had an Arya Samaj wedding and later solemnised their union through a nikah ceremony to honour Sohail's Muslim faith, making it an interfaith marriage that respected both traditions.

In 2000, the couple welcomed their first child, Nirvaan Khan. Parenthood marked a new phase in their relationship, with Seema balancing motherhood and her growing fashion business.

Following their marriage, the Khan family accepted Seema warmly. Over time, she developed a close bond with Salman Khan, Salma Khan, Helen and other members of the family. She also established herself as a successful fashion designer and entrepreneur.

Their second son, Yohan Khan, was born in 2011 through surrogacy. The couple publicly expressed their happiness at completing their family, and Seema often spoke about the joy of raising two children.

Throughout their marriage, Seema became one of India's leading celebrity designers. She co-founded fashion label Bandra 190 and later launched her own brand. In May 2022, Seema and Sohail were photographed outside the Mumbai family court after filing for divorce. Their appearance confirmed months of speculation that they had decided to legally end their marriage after nearly 24 years together.

The divorce was finalised in 2022. Neither Seema nor Sohail made allegations against each other. Instead, both maintained a dignified silence and focused on co-parenting their sons. Their separation was widely described as mutual and respectful.

In several interviews following the divorce, Seema said they had simply "grown in different directions." She emphasised that not every marriage ends because of betrayal or conflict and explained that two people can part ways while still caring deeply for each other. She also praised the Khan family for standing by her even after the divorce.

Despite ending their marriage, Seema and Sohail continue to share a cordial relationship and jointly parent Nirvaan and Yohan. Seema has repeatedly referred to Sohail as "family" and has said that divorce does not erase years of shared memories or mutual respect.
