A day after a fire broke out on the set of Pati Patni Aur Panga 2 in Film City, Goregaon, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), on October 6, called for an overhaul of fire safety norms at the shooting hub. The body demanded that every set have a designated fire officer, adequate firefighting equipment, and mandatory audits, with cancellation of licences in cases of non-compliance. It also shot off a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding a time-bound inquiry into the October 5 fire, an FIR against the channel Colors, producer Nikul Desai, and production house Story Weaver Collective, and the resignation of the Managing Director of Film City.
For Suresh Shyamlal Gupta, President, AICWA, the incident is not an isolated mishap, but evidence of a long-standing safety problem inside Film City. He told mid-day, “No set has fire safety [measures] or fire officers. Film City should appoint them. We are lucky that nobody died. But are we waiting for someone to die before we put fire officers on every set?”
