Marathi cinema is all set to head to the Oscars 2027, with Gondhal being selected as India’s official entry at the 99th Academy Awards. The film helmed by Santosh Davakhar will be competing under the Best International Feature Film category.

Marathi film Gondhal becomes India's official entry for Oscars 2027

The Film Federation of India (FFI) on Friday announced the selection. The entry thus brings a Marathi film and a story rooted in Maharashtra’s cultural traditions to the international spotlight. Chairperson of the selection committee, P Seshadri, said the film was selected as India's Oscar 2027 entry from a list of 33 contenders.
