Fitting neatly into one genre is the last thing Harry Grover thinks about when making music. The singer’s latest track, MAMA, brings together Afro-inspired sounds, Latin influences, and Hindi and Punjabi lyrics. “I didn’t think too much about blending genres while making MAMA,” he told mid-day.
Hindi and Punjabi came naturally to his writing, while Afro-inspired grooves, Latin-style guitars, and other rhythmic elements came together during production. Working with musicians from Morocco and Nigeria further broadened his perspective. “Music doesn’t need a language or a border. Everyone brought their own flavour and a bit of where they come from. The goal is to make music that still feels like me, but can connect with someone regardless of where they’re from or the language they speak.”
