Artificial intelligence is able to create realistic images and videos in seconds, but the fallout can be far greater than on social media when the technology is used to change a woman’s appearance without her consent. Actor Shriya Saran has condemned the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) technology after a morphed clip of Janhvi in an explicit scene went viral online, leading to conversations around consent and the dangers of image-based abuse. In an interview with News18, Shriya Saran revealed that she, too, has been targeted by morphed images. Her remarks come days after Janhvi condemned the circulation of manipulated footage taken from her song Chuttamalle in the 2024 film Devara: Part 1.

Shriya Saran says AI-Morphed images are ‘annoying and not right’

Speaking about her experience, Shriya Saran explained how digitally altered images can change a woman’s physical features or remove parts of her clothing, making the resulting picture bear little resemblance to reality. “It’s funny. Sometimes, I don’t even know if it’s me,” she said, describing the changes made to her appearance. But she made clear that the issue should not be dismissed as harmless internet humour. “Having said that, it’s annoying, and it’s not right,” the actor added. The Drishyam actress acknowledged that AI has useful applications, but her comments highlighted how the technology can also be weaponised to sexualise women without permission. The Times of India and Cinema Express also reported on her remarks, placing them within the wider discussion about non-consensual AI-generated imagery.
