Three seasons later, director Gurmmeet Singh brought his hit streaming series to the big screen with Mirzapur: The Movie. It quickly turned into a blockbuster, having reportedly crossed Rs 300 crore worldwide. But what if we told you that the makers were contemplating taking the theatrical route almost eight years ago? Turns out, when the first two episodes of Mirzapur’s first season were screened at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2018, it gave the makers a glimpse of its theatrical potential.
Recalling the episode, Singh told mid-day, “We saw that the audience was hooting, clapping, and enjoying. So, in our subconscious, we felt that this show and story can work on the big screen.”
