In late September, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) proposed an entertainment tax hike of up to 570 per cent across theatres and performing arts venues — a move that was immediately opposed by the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA).

Gupta told mid-day that in the November 5 letter, the BMC said that the proposed revised rates have not yet been approved by the state government.
