Anil Kapoor’s 1942: A Love Story has been removed from some theatres as several cinema halls are not technically equipped to screen its 8K restoration. Makers said they refuse to compromise on the film’s intended big-screen experience

The restored version of Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala's romantic entertainer 1942: A Love Story was re-released in Indian theatres on 21 August 2026. The latest version of the drama enjoys 8K restoration and Dolby 5.1 surround sound. However, on Monday, the makers revealed that they will only be able to play the movie in some selected theatres across the country, as most of the cinema halls in India support 4K.
