TikTok and its Chinese parent company ByteDance have agreed to pay USD 400 million to resolve a US Department of Justice (DOJ) lawsuit accusing the social media app of collecting data on children in violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.
Under the proposed settlement, which requires court approval, TikTok will pay USD 300 million up front and an additional USD 100 million once a court order vacates a prior consent decree involving TikTok's predecessor, Musical.ly.
