London: The strong Indian batting line-up crumbled against some deadly accurate bowling by Pakistan as the defending champions went down by 180 runs in the Champions Trophy final at The Oval yesterday.
Set to score 339 for a win, India were bowled out for 158 by the 31st over. India skipper Virat Kohli rued how the batting disintegrated but also praised the opposition for their valiant display in the final.
"It's always a bad feeling when you get out cheaply or the batting doesn't work collectively. Everyone feels bad about not having contributed to the team in any way. So yeah, I also felt the same kind of emotions. But everybody have played enough to understand that they have tried their best, and then there are things which you can't control.
"In the end, sometimes you have to accept and admire the skill of the opposition, as well, and agree that they also have come to win a game of cricket. Not that we are not playing at our best; we tried our level best, but we just couldn't make things happen today. But personally, yes, it does feel bad. But you have to understand that you can only control so many things and the game has to move on from there on, so that's the kind of thinking I have when these things happen," said the skipper.
The Indian captain also said that the Pakistani team was more intense and passionate yesterday and they deserved to win.
"Credit to them, they outplayed us in all departments. This is what happens in sport. We didn't take anyone lightly but they were more intense and passionate on the day," Kohli said.
