A major political power shift is unfolding in Washington as Democrats sweep to take control of the US House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections. Republicans have struggled to defend their narrow majority, while Democrats have flipped several key battleground districts. The results mark a significant setback for President Donald Trump and his Republican allies. Affordability concerns, the economic impact of tariffs and the ongoing Iran conflict have emerged as major issues shaping the political battle. Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries is now poised to make history as he eyes the Speaker's gavel. If elected, he would become the first African American Speaker of the US House.
