The Pakistan-Saudi defence alliance faces a major test as Houthi attacks escalate and questions grow over whether Islamabad would provide military support to Riyadh. Pakistan Army spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry says the Mecca Defence Pact with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye is “purely defensive,” with “nothing aggressive” and “no regional aspirations.” He describes the agreement as being based on collective deterrence. The Mecca pact says an armed attack against one member would be treated as an attack against all three countries, putting the agreement under intense scrutiny as the regional crisis escalates.
