A medical helicopter crashed on a Sacramento highway on Monday evening, leaving three people critically injured, officials said. Among the injured was a woman who had to be rescued from underneath the wreckage.

According to Sacramento Fire Department spokesperson Captain Justin Sylvia, the helicopter had just dropped off a patient at a hospital and was returning to its base when it experienced an “in-air emergency” shortly after 7 p.m. The crash occurred in the center of Highway 50, but miraculously, no motorists were injured.
