A Thane-based woman was allegedly cheated of Rs 12.5 lakh by a man posing as a senior government official who promised her son admission to IIT Bombay. An FIR has been registered against the accused for cheating, forgery, and impersonation. This report has particular resonance as the admission season will be upon us soon, and several parents will be looking out for their children to get admission into select institutions.
As reported by the news agency Press Trust of India, the accused, who resided in the same housing complex as the woman, posed as an Indian Revenue Service officer. He further claimed to have a strong influence in various government departments. He conned and collected Rs 12,50,000 from the victim over a period of time in 2023. The target eventually realised that she had been fleeced and filed a complaint, after which an FIR was filed.
