The project includes converting cycle tracks into traffic lanes to decongest the traffic in area

Several underutilised cycle tracks across BKC will be repurposed into vehicular lanes to expand existing road widths, the MMRDA stated

The conversion is projected to increase traffic capacity by 600–900 vehicles per lane

Supporting infrastructure such as streetlights, signboards, trees, bus stops and landscaped elements will be relocated to the footpaths to facilitate the expansion

Last year, the MMRDA Commissioner, Sanjay Mukherjee had suggested that the track can be constructed at any other plot adjoining BKC

The MMRDA had sanctioned a 13-km cycling track in G-block in 2011
