More than 600 buses of the fleet of the civic-run Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking have been reserved for the Lok Sabha elections from May 18, reported news agency PTI.
A BEST official on Friday said that 629 buses, including 35 wheelchair-friendly ones, have been reserved for polling staff and security personnel who will be on election duty between May 18 and May 20.
As per the report, 222 buses will be deployed in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/pm-modi-leads-vibrant-roadshow-in-mumbais-ghatkopar-attracts-massive-crowds-23349391" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Mumbai city</a> while 407 buses will be made available in the suburban areas.

BEST caters to Mumbai and neighbouring cities of Thane, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/navi-mumbai-police-ready-with-4000-officers-for-lok-sabha-elections-2024-23349683" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Navi Mumbai</a> and Mira-Bhayander with its fleet of around 3,000 buses.
<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-adjoining-areas-to-observe-dry-days-on-voting-days-check-details-23349699" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Polling</a> will be held in all six constituencies of Mumbai on Monday, May 20 in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Three constituncies in the neighbouring Thane district will be also be voting on the same day.

The Navi Mumbai police commissioner, Milind Bharambhe, claimed that they had prepared a force of 3,500 to 4,000 officers for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the district. This deployment is part of Thane Lok Sabha's security measures, which include assembly segments such as Airoli and Belapur.
Thane and 12 other Maharashtra seats, including six in Mumbai, will be contested in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 on May 20, reported PTI.&nbsp;
According to the report, Bharambhe confirmed that comprehensive security measures had been put in place, including preparation meetings and the arrival of six armed battalions. The deployment consists of around 3,500 to 4,000 police officers, including officials, who have been strategically allocated for 'bandobust' activities.

Furthermore, vigorous operations have been performed under each police station, resulting in the seizure of illegal firearms, narcotics, and contraband. Bharambhe encouraged folks to use their voting rights without fear, the PTI report further stated.
