Noted Marathi writer and columnist Sushila Hemantkumar Gupte (91), the elder sister of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, died at the age of 91 in Mumbai yesterday after a brief illness.<br /><br />Bal Thackeray, his son Uddhav and other family members had left for a u00a0brief vacation to Mahabaleshwar yesterday morning, but returned for Gupte's last rites. Gupte is survived by her son Pankaj Gupte, a music director.<br /><br />Besides penning several novels, Gupte was a popular columnist in the party-run newspaper Saamna, and also contributed to its Diwali special issues.
